Technically, this was a student project. Or a project I did for a class an used the class as an excuse to do it? This was my final design project before I finally finished my Associates in Fine Art.
I've always loved Rhapsody in Blue by George Gershwin and Disney's Fantasia. It was serendipity that Fantasia 2 has a sequence revolving around RiB. I'd been using Daz (Eovia) Carrara Pro for 3D. It was a very affordable and capable program, still is, but is outweighed now by things like Blender.
I was also using Corel Painter at the time and found you could record your drawing sessions and used that for the beginning. It never really worked right at the time and the hardware I had, while robust, just kept getting overwhelmed. This was done before 720-HD came out, I used to wonder why vector wasn't somehow a standard then HD came out and kept evolving.
This was made to be projected. I bought a projector just for the class to be able to try and make a fully immersive experience. I'd seen some of the projected installations on buildings and wanted to do something like that.
This gave me the chance to try some abstract storytelling.
I need to give it another edit.
Below are some of the stills from the work I did in Painter. I'd developed an abstract vocabulary I was exploring. It's still something I go back to.
